We are looking to head down to the Gulf Shores/Orange Beach area in March for a couple of weeks.Never been there but we have had several people tell us it's just about impossible to get into the state park there. If that is the case, any suggestions on a RV park would be appreciated.Also, since this will be our first trip there, any suggestions on things to do/see, and very importantly, any must visit restaurants would be very much appreciated.thanks in advance for any help,Phillip

We have stayed at Lake Ospret, Anchors Aweigh, an Plantation Harbour. If u have a motor home u might check Bella Terra. Check them out on rvparkreviews .. March should not be too big of a problem.Good luck an enjoy

We have gone to the state park in March without reservations. Most of the time, at least some of the snowbirds have headed back toward the north. They always keep a few sites for walk-ins. We have stayed there and at Island Retreat. We prefer the SP, but Island Retreat was okay.

We just got back from our thanksgiving trip. This was our second stay at Anchors Aweigh. It is a very nice rv resort. Paved roads and sites full hook ups plus wifi and cable.

We like Bella Terra in Foley...the State Park had too many alligators and their staff was too rude...just sayin....DennisP.S. Try dinner at the Gulf restaurant in Orange Beach....Dennis

Big Lagoon State Park about 10 Minutes east in Florida is nice.

Good job! Be sure to check out the nature center in the campground to see native animals and for the program schedule. We watched the naturalist feed the baby snake, very informative.

Hit the farmer market in Foley, produce was fresh fresh fresh . I have stayed @ Big Lagoon S.P. twice, sites are small but I liked it I stayed once by myself and with DW second time , she didn't like it. And yes you have to go to a central dump station,no sewer @ campsites. I just stayed one night both times .

Anchors Aweigh is a nice campground but several miles from the shore. Just depends on your interest.

I think you may be talking about "Billy's" if you are looking to buy take-home seafood. It is not a restaurant, but it is really good seafood.

There are signs for Billy's on Highway 59 that will guide your way, south of the Outlet Mall.

Another vote for Anchors Aweigh. If you are into model trains go to the Foley visitor center - they have an incredible display - call to find out when the display is operating. Go to Bob's - fresh seafood - out rt 10, I think. Take home those fresh shrimp, cook up, and my oh my - nothing better.

I think monthly rates for snowbirds continues at least through the end of March, but they have several sites that are not available for monthly rental and they are usually not hard for walk-ins to get. Also some snowbirds leave early. The only exception in March would be during school spring brakes for AL, MS, GA or LA.

I would call for a reservation. Even if you can't get into the state park there are plenty of pretty nice campgrounds in the area.

The Cobalt restaurant. It's at the far east end of Orange Beach just past a very big bridge. Drive to Pensacola and visit the Naval Museum. It took us 3 trips to see all of it to our satisfaction. Ft. Morgan.....blah! 45 minutes and there is nothing more to see.

We were in a condo in Orange Beach for 6 weeks, rainy, cloudy & cold. Not really much to do or see. Summer might be better weather, but for us, we won't be going back.
