Harpers Ferry West Virginia KOA - Pros/Cons?

We are planning a 5 night stay at the Harpers Ferry, West Virginia KOA. Has anyone stayed there? If so are there any pros/Cons? We traveled to Harpers Ferry 17 years ago, but not in a TT. So this will be a new experience for us. Thanks in advance for any information.

  • Thanks for the replies...We are looking forward to this vacation. We are going to have one of the pull-through sites. I'll have to post our experience...hope it's a good one!

  • Seems like a decent enough CG, however they have breed restrictions for dogs which gives me the opportunity to spend my camping dollars elsewhere.
  • I thought the best thing about the place was the location. I would not stay there otherwise. We were parked in the new sites, the pull-throughs at the very front. Luckily it was November and the only people there were mostly long term. If we had had someone parked next to us, we wouldn't have had the sun shine on our passenger side - they were that close. If they had a slideout it would have been next to/about on top of our fire pit. And their sewer hook up would have been less than 3 feet from our front door. It was November, the employees were both bored and unhelpful, waving us in the general direction of our campsite, not wanting to sell anything out of the camp store, etc. And most everything was closed, which wouldn't have bothered me except for the price they charge.

Just our opinion. It was off season so maybe they just weren't really into it. But, I won't stay there again, especially at that price.
  • I've been there twice and like the campground but both sites were hard to get into. First time I stayed over to the right when you pull up to the office and I about ripped my bumper off my 5er pulling in. Second time I was back behind the office backed up to the trench and it was a good site just very hard to back into with all the trees. It didn't help that it was a Friday and just about dark .. Maneuvering around everyone else didn't help.

We did like the cg and would go back..... We did tubing down the river, adults and kids had fun! I think you'll have a good time!

My kids enjoyed the movie theatre at night and the full court basketball court which was inside! Very large pool too.... Think I've talked myself into going back soon!
  • We stayed there in May for about 4 nights. We were there on the weekend, and it was full. The campground had many activities for children. We didn't have kids with us, we were just there to see the sights. But it seemed like everyone was having a good time. It cleared out by Sunday afternoon. It was a clean park, we actually saw workers picking up around the empty sites.
It was a very short drive to Harpers Ferry National park. We used our Golden pass to get in. We also drove to Antietam, that was about a 40 minute drive, if I remember correctly.
The parking lot near the office was quite big. It was very easy to park our mh & toad and check in, then unhook before we drove to our site.
