KOA on S. Padre IS. Has maybe went up $30.00 total in the last 3-4 years. RGV. Has suffered the last couple of years. Weathe has not been good, on the whole.

Wee too are feeling the hit on US funds but it is what it is and I wouldn't wanna' be anywhere else this coming winter! As for out west I've heard some of the resorts are hiking their prices, I'd say do some serious shopping now and find a price your comfortable with aside that I'm startin' to get exited about heading back to "Sunny St.Cloud"!!!

I agree with the OP that......Our "two retirement cheques" ...... do not mean that you are making a lot of money. I will be getting 5 check between us and it will only amount to about 23% of what "MY" 1 working check amounts to. Then of course we have the stock market which the richest person in the world just lost in 1 day $16 BILLION so us little guys can't complain much.

The cost of all things has to go up to cover the FIXED costs and taxes... If it keeps going like this LAST WINTER was the last trip for many folks.

Well, I try to cut costs as much as possible on the way down. I use Walmarts, not point in spending $35 to just sleep overnight, and I avoid restaurants. Apart from that not much else one can do. I also put storage insurance on nay vehicles left at home which saves some money and put my house heat at the minimum, suspend cable TV and that sort of thing. Problem in Ontario is you still have to spend a fair bit on heating even when not there. No such issue in Vancouver. I do find i spend less on nickle & dime stuff on the road.

When the Canadian dollar was worth $1.10 US about 5 years back, my wife & I discussed going into our line of credit and borrowing maybe 50K and converting it to US. It would have been a smart move.

If I did not have a handicapped son I have to live physically close to, i woudl move out of the outrageously pricey Vancouver housing market and recoup enough from my house to move, and still finance winters.

I agree with westernparkowner so you guys have a couple of choices. Either stay home in the cold or come south and live with the prices

Matter of fact, I like the lower loony. It makes it very easy for me to get gas at Costco without waiting in line for 30-45 minutes while you guys fill up 4-6 extra gas cans to haul home along with your gallons of milk.

Maybe you should gripe to your government.

I was not "gripping" to anyone, just stating facts.
1. We love the RGV and will miss being there this season very much.
2. Our "two retirement cheques" that we earned with 40+ years of work, do not come close to replacing pre-retirement income.
3. Over the years we have spent what we could afford at the parks and communities while putting in hundreds of volunteer hours.
4.We do not make daily or weekly runs from San Benito to Sault St. Marie with gallons of milk and gas that we have to declare on arrival.
5. Those line ups that you spoke of are putting dollars into the local economy.
6. The last couple of winters have not been that grand in the RGV.

I too was a little surprised at the anti-Canadian comments, as they are certainly our closest and dearest friends in a world full of enemies. No sense getting political here, the OP asked a simple question.

As far as the profitability of RV Parks, that is the American (and Canadian) way things work. If you don't like your return on investment, put your money somewhere else. We are sympathetic as can be. NOT.

No need to get nasty. OP asked a very simple question "if prices are going up in the Valley." I think the answer will be no. If anything the fuel being down the cost of things that need trucking should also go down.

Most of Canada is our very good allies/neighbors/cousins. I say most because some feel they are independent of the world (like some on this side of the border.) I hope everyone realizes that we're all in this together.

The Canadian dollar only rose to a maximum of 10% more, not 30% less as is the current case with the US dollar. That sort of drop is bound to make a lot Canadian snowbirds think twice and stay home this year or take a winter flight to a place like Mexico where the currency is in their favor. I think the impact on Snowbird parks is going to be significant. Some may just adjust by shortening their time, but that will still have an impact. If I were a normal Canadian snowbird I would be rethinking seriously for next season. In my case I work for expenses leading caravans in Mexico, so the impact for me personally, is not so great. If it were not for that, I would be flying & using a hotel in a country where my dollar goes further rather than hauling an RV this next season. I have a pension, but not one that can stand a 30% increase in expenses each year. It is showing with cross border stats this summer, US tourist trips are up 20% while Canadian trips to the US are down by about the same amount. I suspect snowbird parks that rely on Canadians, are going to have to lower prices, or there will be a lot more crowded BLM land spots or Walmart parking lots. Most snowbird parks I have seen are top heavy with Canadian plates. It is going to also impact parks in Mexico which have had a nasty habit of pricing themselves in US dollars.
