Hunting Island State Park, SC

Wifi is available only at the park store. We have been at he camp ground for 2 weeks for the last 3 years and going for 2 weeks on June 30. The island is about 15 miles from Beaufort. The beach is a tropical setting with palmetto growing next to the beach. The beach is about 3 miles long. You will not be crowded. Hunting Island is about the nicest beach campground I have been in. Great seafood and while the visit the historical section and the marine museum.

Verizon does pretty good in the park.

What site did you get?

Watch for ticks - plenty of them.

It is an older SP CG in a great setting. If you are near the beach you will hear the waves crashing at night. It will flood during heavy rains. I enjoyed the carriage ride in Beaufort looking at older homes but not the yankee spin on what took place there during the WBS.

Thanks for the alert on the ticks. We do not have a beachfront spot. I made the reservation in September and I was lucky to get #197. Looking forward to it!!

We needed to go near park office also. But since then picked up a verizon jet pack ,it works well where we have been so far.

We stayed ocean side in site 48. Probably the best trip we have ever had. The 12 hour drive was suddenly worth it once we arrived. We didn't do too much exploring so that may be why we never found any good restaurants. The area is absolutely beautiful. If you like fishing make sure you go down to the pier past the campground. Using squid sold there you can catch a fish every cast. Small sharks are two feet or so are all over.

lots and lots of bug spray...big time. in the woods it can get annoyingly rough with bugs :)

the beach is all but gone. the weather/erosion etc. has nailed it big time, but still a beautiful place. You will enjoy it!!

and there are pet deer. feed them some bread. they travel all around the cg. absolutely beautiful and entertaining!

Hunting Island is a beautiful park. We stayed in site 130 for one night recently. We wish we could have stayed longer. There is plenty of beach at low tide. Be sure to visit the lighthouse and eat some seafood in Beaufort.
