I85 area campground Virginia, North Carolina

I don't think either has sewer hookups, but they are relatively close to I-85.

We use JC Cooper Campground at Satterwhite Point on Kerr Lake. It is a NC State Park. You can have 50-amp connection (no water this time of year). There is a dump station. The campground is about 10 mile off of I-85.

Although coming south, Map Quest would tell you to use exit 223, we use exit 214.

There is a good possibility that no one will come by to collect the fee from you ($25/night - $19 if you are 62 or older.) We go by the office (across the street form the entrance) and pay the next morning. But, if you are leaving early, the office will not be open and you could have a free night.

On edit: I see that Kimball Point has been recommended. It is part of Kerr Lake Recreation Area and It would be our choice at other times of the year, but it closes after the last weekend of October. (Reopens in April.)

not much close to the freeway. Could you stay in I-95 and stop at The RV Resort at Carolina Crossroads? Then you could cut over on US 64 near Rocky Mount to get back to I-85.

Depending on how long of a drive you have I have used s few different.. Never stayed off of 85.. that was always a stretch for us

in Doswell VA mile marker 89- Kings Dominion Campground.. it is about 1-1/2 hrs from NC

In Ashland VA mile marker 80 - Americamps Campground.. about the same distance

I have stayed at all the above and they are no more than a mile or so off the highway.. SO IF you are looking for a convenient overnight spot , I would recommend any of them...

North Bend COE at Kerr Dam is 15 minutes from I85 at South Hill. After the end of Oct the water is shut off but a few electric sites are open half price so it's about $6 with senior pass. Don't know if the dump station is open.

you are going to have to really hustle to make that in 15 miutes. and 58 is heavily patrolled. some call it a speed trap.
