Virginia campgrounds

New fifth wheeler, 42' Montana. Can anyone reccommend campground in mountains or near kerr lake that I can get into. Love to be on water. Thank you.
  • I believe the COE’s North Bend Park has space for your size unit.
  • A google search brought up bunches of stuff in NC, but only a few in VA. Those were Oconeechee State Park and North Bend Park and Campground. Each of these have great reviews - 4.8 out of 5.0. They also say that they have big rig access. I would call the park and ask to talk to a ranger. Usually the person answering the phone has no idea what the campground is like and doesn't know what facilities it would require for a 42' ft RV.

  • North Bend is a fantastic COE park with sites right along the lake.

They have sites to accommodate your 42' RV
  • We like Nut Bush Bridge on Kerr Lake in NC. Go every year first week of November. Very nice.
  • As others have said, on the Va side Occoneechee state park, And North Bend COE are both primary locations. The other COE parks close at the end of the month. West my favorite park is Fairy stone State park. I have not paid attention to sites for a 5er that large, but I had no problems with a 28' tt.
Also Fairy stone is a short drive from the Blue Ridge pkwy and lovers leap on Rt 58, the next couple of weeks are peak color in that region.
  • Occoneechee was one of our favorite parks until we got this 38' 5er. I strongly suggest you ride thru one day with your truck before hooking up and heading out. Yes, the site may say 50' back in but swing room is the problem on most of their sites at that length.
North Bends last night to stay on RA is 10/31 with an exit date of 11/1. We were forced to leave last year on 11/1 when our closing date on our house had been pushed back due to Matthew's damage in the area. Supposedly there is one dry camping loop open year round but their site does not say that. I would call the park (434)738-0059.
Nutbush has very nice sites on the water but again I would visit first without the 5er. They do not lock the gates at night, and Henderson is close by for supplies and restaurants. Have fun.
