Depending on how long of a drive you have I have used s few different.. Never stayed off of 85.. that was always a stretch for us
in Doswell VA mile marker 89- Kings Dominion Campground.. it is about 1-1/2 hrs from NC
In Ashland VA mile marker 80 - Americamps Campground.. about the same distance
I have stayed at all the above and they are no more than a mile or so off the highway.. SO IF you are looking for a convenient overnight spot , I would recommend any of them...
