Typically we do about 150 nights a year on the road. We move about alot. We are not seasonal.
For us back ins are just fine. Don't especially look for FHUs either but if available the sewer needs to be mid site. At the rear is useless to us. Most RVs seem to have the sewer about middle.
The CG dump needs to be level, both ways, & accessible buy longer 5ers. If it has to be on a turn it must be a left hand turn.
Having a mix of site lengths is fine but be prepared to assign RVs to size appropriate sites. Don't be letting <30' class Cs & TT book sites that >35' 5ers & MHs need.
Some good points.
- If we are staying for a week or more, we want full hook ups and as mentioned if it's all the way to the back, that's a hassle as I have to pull out the spare hoses and splice them together...and guess what you will likely see leaks and spills as people cobble things together with old leaky hoses to make it work.
- I would disagree on the dump station. The roadway should have a cross slope towards the sewer drain. RV tanks are flat bottomed so a little cross slope helps them drain better. Also if there is a spill (and there will be), the spill drains towards the hole.
- Speaking of level...spend the time to get the sites level if possible. Obviously if the terrain is rugged, this may not be possible but get it as close as you can. It's really nice when you back into a site, check and your already perfectly level side to side (fore and aft is not as critical) rather than having to pull out the leveling blocks and the fart around with them to get it level.
- I would say be judicious with site assignments but don't obsess over it. Obviously, if a 25ft Class C shows up and the only site available is laid out for monster RVs, you aren't going to turn them away. Likewise if people are traveling together, they will likely want to be close to each other if possible. Often the pricing will be used to discourage people taking a bigger site than they need...say $5-10/night extra if you want a large/pull thru/or otherwise prime sites.
