ideas for parks and sights in eastern CA. highway 395

After our trip south to Arizona this winter we will be heading back to Oregon via highway 395 in California on the east side of the Sierra's. We know little about the area and are thinking of crossing back to I-5 through Tahoe. Our trip back starts in Bullhead City/Laughlin area. Any tips on great campgrounds or RV parks would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your time in reading and responding. Best regards, David

  • Boulder Creek in Lone Pine and be sure to check out the Movie Museum it is a must stop, and once you have been there check out Movie Road. You can get a guide to where what movies were made at the visitors center a little south of town. Bodie ghost town which is a state park is well worth a visit, you can stay at Meadowcliff RV Park and explore from there for the Bridgeport & Bodie area. Usually the route through Yosemite is not open by June. Hope we get a lot of snow this year and its closed until July. Enjoy 395, I would take it all the way into Lakeview Oregon then take highway north of Lakeview that cuts over to 97 south of Bend. Dick

Not sure if the OP is just looking for overnights or doing a little exploring.

We like Meadowcliff RV Park and Topaz Lake Resort and Casino. Both near the CA/NV border on 395.
I should have been more clear on our schedule. We will leave Laughlin about April 15th and take five weeks to get home in Portland. I know no one who have been up 395 towards Oregon. So far you folks have given us some great ideas. The Mono Lake area look great. We are hikers, enjoy history, and love to eat. We don't gamble but like to try the food.

  • Check out the film museum in Lone Pine. Well worth the trip.
  • As long as you are on US395 why not go in the east entrance and see Yosemite National Park.
  • We have stayed at this place in Bullhead city--would definitely go back-Lars
