I know there are nice places in both Bakersfield and Fresno, but we will need one on Sunday night between those two towns -- and all of the reviews on RVparkreviews.com are quite negative for any of the other options.We don't care about scenery or amenities -- just a fairly quiet and safe place to park and sleep.Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Don't know which direction you are headed........but it's only 2 hr drive between Bakersfield and Fresno so why overnight between them ?

As an avid boondocker you'll find something. I'd be eyeing a truck stop in Pixley.. or eq.

If you're traveling north you might want to go about 35 miles north of Fresno to Chowchilla's Pheasant Run RV park. One of the top rated in the country.RT

There's a casino in Lemoore but it's pretty far off 99. Probably not worth it. Lake Kaweah is nice as well but that's East of Visalia.But I agree with Old-Biscuit. 60-90 from Bakersfield to Visalia exit on 99. Another 45 minutes or so to Fresno. There's a KOA Visalia Sequoia National Park. Haven't stayed there but looked up a couple reviews on Trip Advisor that said it's OK. Probably pricey for just an overnight road stop.I would stay in the Visalia/Hanford area or go North of Fresno though.

There is a rest area 2.5 miles north of Tipton on Hwy 99. Website says you can stay 8 hours within a 24 hour period. Look it up on Google Maps Earth View and zoom in to see it.

Is there a decent RV park between Bakersfield & Fresno?

My post was mostly as a poke to those who suggest campgrounds to those of us looking to boondock, but we have stayed there overnight. I always feel safe in the company of truckers, though. Plus, we have the big dog and are always armed. ;)

Len, yes, there are rest areas along the 99. But unfortunately, the Central Valley is not very safe -- there is a great deal of gang activity, even in the small towns. So I would not park overnight at a rest area. If this were rural Wyoming, for example, I would feel differently.

Oh, come on. There is a great dry camping rest area between Tulare and Tipton. On the south end is a big tree surrounded by a level dirt area. We've used it. Geez. I thought you were hard core.

(I told you that I was going to post a boondocking/dry camping post in the "RV Parks, Campgrounds and Attractions" forum some day.) :D

Thanks for the suggestions! Right now, it looks like the Visalia KOA is our best bet for a quick overnight -- quiet and rural. We are not big fans of the KOAs, but there is a time and place for them.
