- BarbaraOKExplorerWe spent 1 winter in the RGV. No cultural events to speak of. Geocache the area from Edinburg up the Rio Grande is 2 weeks, went across to Progresso twice with friends. Visited all of the places listed above. After a month, we ran out of things to do and we don't sit around and just drink with some clique. On to Arizona for us, don't like the bugs in Florida.

Scenery = World Birding Centers, State Parks, National Wildlife Refuges, National Butterfly Center, Historic Sites, Rio Grande River, Ranch Land, South Padre Island & Mexico.
"Never felt very safe" --- Our 17th Season and we have never felt unsafe and pretty much go everywhere except Renosa. - B_O__PlentyExplorer IISpent a month in Edenburg TX. Park was friendly and cheap. Nothing in that area will get me to go back. No scenery, tons of poverty, never been anywhere that had a roaming security guard in the WalMart parking lot all day like they do there. Never felt very safe. It's a good place if you want to buy used tires. They are for sale everywhere. Need more than cheap prices and warm weather to make me want to go there.
B.O. - pawattExplorerLooks like we will be in the 80's here in Palmview Texas, Christmas Eve, Christmas day and the day after then in the 70's. Can't complain about that. Yes there are parks that charge about $200. A month for a 5 month stay and there are some fancy places that charge $800. Most rates are plus electric.

Don't know where in TX you are finding $300 rent. Everything I have checked out was $400 + with any nice ones being in the plus area with electric and maybe water on top of that. I'm noticing that since the hurricane, prices have gone up.
There are over 400 RV parks in the RGV (Rio Grande Valley of Texas). Three months for under $1,000 is very common. Of course there are a few that double that, but there are also some at half that price. I spent three winters in South Florida and if money were no object, I might be there now. The hurricane did not affect the RGV directly, that was 300 miles north of here. Texas is a big state. - doxiemom11Explorer IIDon't know where in TX you are finding $300 rent. - TomG2ExplorerFunny how the lurkers have been waiting for almost record low temperatures in Texas to bring up the difference. Average highs are in the mid-70's for South Texas this time of year. We had 80's last weekend. 78 predicted for Christmas Day in McAllen, Texas.
Another number that might interest readers would be a monthly rent comparison. Something around $600 versus $300 in my experience. - IvylogExplorer IIILike TX, FL is a long state so there can be a big difference in temperatures as all of Fl is snowbird country...unlike TX where it’s mainly along the Rio Grande or Corpus Christi. With water on both sides, FL does warmup fairly quickly. I do not understand why Corpus and Dallas we’re both 33 this morning??? Guess it’s that water on both sides of FL as it’s 300 miles between Miami (63) and Gainesville (35) and 345 miles between Corpus (33) and Dallas (33)???
- RobWNYExplorer55 today in the Titusville Florida area
- LwiddisExplorer III never found Georgia warm in the winter. Pretty however.
