Sorry for your experience. Being from Michigan I can tell you there are plenty of other places to go, see and enjoy. Personally I drive by there often on my way north and have not felt the need to stop there for chicken or anything else. You have to love tourist raps to enjoy.
Head for a state park for good full sites and head for the UP for rustic and beautiful places to see. Far less people far more history and untouched places.
