Ocean Beach Trailer Resort in Strathmere isn't actually on the beach. It's not even beach front. There is a road (Ocean Drive - CR 619) and a row of houses/businesses between the resort and the ocean. Talk about cramped quarters. If you trip going out the camper door, you'll probably face plant into your neighbor's camper. I'm pretty sure Ocean Beach only offers seasonal camping.
Wildwood toyed with the idea of having a campground on the beach a few years ago. If memory serves me correctly, they weren't planning to offer any hook-ups, just a place on the sand to park. It never happened. Not sure if they are still thinking about it.
We've stayed in a few resorts in Cape May County. A lot of them are designed for seasonal camping and in some it seems like the short term camping is just an after thought. We liked Avalon Campground and Ponderosa Campground. Avalon Campground offered more on site amenities, while Ponderosa is closer to the beach (in Avalon). Whippoorwill Campground (close to Ocean City in Marmora) isn't too bad, but we were right next to the pool which did get loud on the weekend.
We toured many others when we lived in Ocean City and weren't thrilled with any of them we didn't stay at. Of the ones we toured, I can't recall them all, the nicest ones were along Route 9. The ones that were not along Route 9 just did not appeal to us.
