Kentucky lakes,where to camp?

I posted this in family camping and no results so try this one.younger family with kids 11,13,and 15all boys looking for a resort type wih lots of fun things for the kids to do at the camp in July.Would like a campground on the Kentuky lakes if you have any suggestions and would like he northern action as coming from northern Illinios so the shorter he drive he better but for the perfect campground would drive a little farther, thanks for the help.
  • We used to pull a camper and jet-ski down there every summer from Davenport. I'm not sure how many resort type RV parks there are around there as the attraction is the lakes and Land Between The Lakes. We always stayed at the campground at Kentucky Dam State Resort Park. A great place. Has a beach, huge marina where you can rent boats - jet skis, pontoon boats, etc. They also have a fleet of houseboats for rent. But the campground is only a campground.

If you go, make sure to visit Patti's in Grand Rivers and also look up Knoth's BBQ. Stop in Paducah and get groceries.

If you are really looking for somewhere that has more activities for your kids, you might consider heading to Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri.
  • Try searching in the RV Parks section for `Kentucky Lake' or `LBL' or `Land between the lakes'. Renting a houseboat and swimming in the Lake would be a kick BUT it costs a bunch of money...
  • if you want to enjoy the lake type activities, lakeside campground, aurora, KY. had a place where I backed in about 5 ft from the water.
if you want an amusement park for the kids, just go to any Jellystone around the corner.

  • You may consider looking into either Hillman Ferry or Piney campgrounds. These are National Forest Service cg's located at opposite ends of LBL with Hillman Ferry being the Northern one. I can't speak for Hillman Ferry but we have camped at Piney before our kids took the training wheels off the bikes and they are now in their 20's. Piney is a large campground but spacious with a lot of activities geared towards kids. They have summer activity programs, basketball, baseball, a nice sandy beach, two boat ramps, a fishing pier, and a paved bike trail off thru the woods. This is a very family oriented campground located on the shore of Kentucky Lake. The 1850's home place is a great day trip as is the planetarium. I have a few pictures from a Halloween trip we took 6 or 7 years back. Piney It'll give you some idea of the campground.

We camped at Energy Lake, which is really nice and quiet. Not too far from there are the bigger places, like Piney. Also, check out Paris Landing State Park down the road in Tennessee, they have all the boat rentals/jet skis, plus a sweet golf course.
  • We stayed at Hillman Ferry Campground in Land Between the Lakes--really liked it--lots to do and see in the area, for adults and children.

Please check out lbl.org for information about activities and things to see and do...also, under "see and do", click camping to find out more about the campgrounds.
