Lackland AFB camping

We have a nephew graduating in late April so looking for a place to stay. I have been looking with RVParky and RV Park Reviews and from the reviews Hidden Valley RV Park looks like the best place for us. Reviews look good and it is pretty close to the base. Would like to hear from anyone here who has stayed in the area and can give some first hand advice. Thanks to all, Jim.
  • Do they have a military family camp there? Can you get your nephew to reserve a spot for you?
  • Lackland AFB has a military campground right on base. If you are retired military or AD, you can stay. If not, your nephew can sponsor you and get a site for you as a family member. Altho, might be too late to get a reservation at this point, as base CG usually fill up for any ceremony dates.

San Antonio has three military campgrounds ...

See here: www.militarycampgrounds.us (note the .us not the .com)
  • Enjoy that trip.
I know Lackland's base CG is one the better ones down there. If you can get in.. We were lucky to have a retired Master Chief with us and that opened up lots of doors that the normal person doesnt get to see or do.
Been there not camping but for graduation twice with my son. Once for boot camp and then again for Security Force Tech School graduation.
San Antonio is a great town to visit..

  • I saw the military camping option but according to what I read it is first come first filled and we would like a reservation. Another problem with the military camping is if it is on military property. I travel with firearms and the Lackland information pages say no firearms on base property. No, I am not traveling from Illinois to Texas without them. Jim.
  • Travelers World or Blazing Star are the closest. Never stayed at either but they do get good reviews.
  • Travelers World is a great facility with manicured landscaping that is very well maintained. The only thing we didn't care for was the fact that the staff didn't seem overly friendly. They responded to any questions or issues we had, but didn't seem to go the extra step which we find most campgrounds try to ensure.
