http://www.cafev.com/ - Big_KatunaExplorer IIWe have stayed a week twice around Lafayette. It depends how deep you want to dig around, but there is lots to see and do..
Tour Shadows on the Teche, Tabasco Factory, Konriko factory. The food is wonderful as are the butcher shops Eat at Prejeans.
We have done New Orleans several times when we were younger. Bourbon Street isn’t what it used to be. 2-3 days is enough.
We don’t go anymore but we’ll go back to Lafayette area again. - TxGearheadExplorer II^^^X2 Prejeans pretty good.

Dons Meats on the eastbound service road of I-10 has some good stuff. - In the Lafayette area, head over to Poche's Market for lunch in Breaux Bridge. You won't regret that.
- guidryExplorerStay at the Cajun Palms in Henderson, La. great park and close to many things to do. Swamp tours are fun.
- Big_KatunaExplorer IIWe stay at Poches Fish and Camp.
- magnusfideExplorer III'd spend a week in Lafayette and an evening in NO.
- Isaac-1ExplorerIf you want to see real cajun culture head south or east of Lafayette, Henderson, New Iberia, Abbeville, etc. Lafayette itself is where all the oil drilling companies have their offices, and as such many of the residents are recent imports to the area. So if you want Greek food, try Lafayette, if you want Cajun Food and culture go to one of the other smaller towns mentioned above.
Also note you don't find much if any cajun food or culture in New Orleans, at best you find some cajun/creole mash up (and no creole is not cajun). The quick way to tell creole food from cajun food is if it has tomatoes in it chances are it is creole, as very few cajun dishes contain tomatoes. So gumbo with tomato and okra = creole not cajun. - jplante4Explorer II
