Lancaster County, PA Area

A few years ago we actually got in trouble at Beacon Hill because we had kids younger than 16 years old and making too much noise. Country Haven is more out of the way. Roamers Retreat is subject to flooding, and not all that easy to get in and out off of a very busy Route 30. We know all the back road routes to get around so we don't get stuck in too much traffic. On weekends, Route 30 and 340 can become parking lots.

We stayed at Beacon Hill a few years ago and really enjoyed it. The owners were very helpful in our planning. Would definitely go back!

Have stayed at Roamers Retreat many times, smaller campground, very quiet, a little further away from traffic too. Amish cart comes thru selling baked goods.

I don't know that you would be disappointed with Lancaster but I agree that Ohio Amish Country is amazing. It has the largest Amish settlement in the country and it's beautiful. There is commercialism there too but that is any tourist area. I would just think to direct you there because coming from Texas it is closer for you. Scenic Hills RV Park is what you are asking for. It is labeled as a mature park. Kids are allowed but there is nothing to draw them there. It is in Berlin which is the heart of Ohio's Amish Country.

We have been considering a trip out there also. How do they feel about campers having an alcoholic beverage around the campfire, or during the day ?....not out of control drinking

Some years ago we stayed at Beacon Hill. Yes it is in the heart of the Amish country but the Amish are very busy people all night. The clippity cloppity of the carriages and horses kept us wake most time. After working the young uns go courting to the wee hours of the morning.

Lancaster is much more commercialized that the Amish in Ohio and Indiana. Yes you can go back roads and get the real feel but it is like night and day from the OH and IN. Is it worth the trip, yes because there are other things in the area; Gettysburg and Hershey. If you go, I would stay at Beacon Hill; it is perfect for those who don't ask for a lot and don't want children or golf carts.

I have to agree on Country Haven being a quiet out of the way CG in the heart of Amish farmlands. We camped for many years down the road from Country Haven at Spring Gulch when it was family owned. We don't care for corporate owned CG's, so we haven't been to Spring Gulch in a while. Next trip trip to Lancaster PA we will stay at Country Haven.

We use Country Haven, which is in the middle of Amish farms and has a five mile view of same. No amenities other than full hookups. No pool, playground or activities. Very quiet.
