Lancaster Strausburg Pa area

Looking for campgrounds in the area, going to go to Sights Sounds Theater, we usually stay in state parks but are open to any good campgrounds with shaded sites, must have electric, water and sewer would be nice but not necessary, just wife and myself and we are both retired so not interested in places that are geared toward kids, like something centrally located so can take in all the area has to offer.

  • We live near the Lancaster area and go week-end camping there a lot.

Beacon Hills is nice, but about twenty minutes away from Sight and Sound.

Old Mills Streams is our favorite campground in the area and is close to Sight and Sound.
  • We stay at Old Mill Stream Campground. This year they have decided to close from January to April 1st. If you are going in the next few weeks before the end of the month they will be open and have sites with heated water spigots. Call for reservations - oddly they do fill even at this time of the year. I am not sure what else may be open there as this had been one of the few that remained open after October.

If you are going during the Spring or summer they are all nice, for the most part and all need reservations in advance as this is a very popular area. We do prefer Old Mill Stream Campground over the others. And the owners are incredibly nice and accommodating.
  • We stayed at the RV park near Strasburg but I can't remember the name it was so long ago but I do remember it was really nice. It was close to the railroad museums in Strasburg which was our reason for being there.

There used to be a campground south (?) of Lancaster that was big and nice. Had to go through a guarded gate. Was owned by Philly Power and Light Co. Is it still there? And is it now called Muddy Run? Is it still nice? Thanks for any info.

Muddy Run looks like a great place
    Muddy Run Park
  • We stay at beacon hill campground in intercourse PA the heart Lancaster. It is 18 and above campground has no pool. It's a great place very clean. We go there every fall.

We went to the Sight&Sound Theater in August, stayed at Country Acres Family Campground for a couple of nights. It's address is 20 Leven Road Gordonsville, PA. It's close and very nice. DW is suggesting we go to another show this spring, if we do, I'll choose Country Acres again.

  • Old Mill Stream beside Dutch Wonderland is nice. Open all winter, as far as I know.clicky

As far as I know that's the best one in the area. There's one out around Strasburg that might be closer for Sight and Sound, but it looks pretty dumpy from the road.
