- 2gypsies1Explorer IIIFor the best Grand Canyon experience I'd recommend you stay in the park itself at Trailer Village. It has recently been paved, it is a short walk to the canyon rim and you can catch the free shuttle just outside the campground. Here are some pictures and information:
Trailer Village RV - Grand Canyon - fbconsults1Explorerx2, head for Kingman, fuel up there for best prices, then we like the Grand Canyon Railway RV Park in Williams. They are Passport America, but check with them for the dates they allow PPA, they do not in the summer. Ride the train to the GC if that interests you, it is 75.00 PP round trip, with a 3 hour layover at the canyon. There is a RV park at the canyon, old but serviceable, location, location, location. We stayed there once and a 12 point buck walked through the campground. If you have a toad, you can take the drive along the rim, and come out at Canyon, then back to Flagstaff and Williams.
Happy Trails, Forrest - kalynzooExplorerBasecamp in Las Vegas area and take a day drive to the Dam. RV parking is VERY limited, as a matter of fact all parking is limited. So take the car or take a tour. Then straight down to the I-40 near Kingman. There is really not much to see on the way down, unless your really into desert, then it is a great place to 4 wheel or hike. At the South side of the Grand Canyon I really recommend basecamping in William. It is a 60 mile one hour drive up to the South Rim, but Williams has some lovely campgrounds, and by far better restaurants. We have stayed more than a few times at Circle of Pines KOA, and I highly recommend that park. Lots of trees, large sites, indoor heated pool, just a really nice stop. There are many other parks in Williams as well. Don't miss a visit to BearAzona. It is a drive through wild animal park, and it is totally fascinating for the entire family, us old guys include. For young children the DeerPark is also a fun visit.
Enjoy the trip, and Happy Trails.
