Las Vegas: Where to stay and where to avoid

Hello Fellow Travelers,

Wondering if anyone can advise us on places to stay in Las Vegas. Seems like there are areas to avoid so that info would also be useful. We have never been there and are planning a week in Vegas; we have a 45' motor home. How are the casinos for RV's? Any particular one you can recommend? There are lots of RV parks in Vegas that I read about in RV Park Reviews. Has anyone stayed at Las Vegas RV Park? If yes, what did you think of it? We'd like to be near the strip but don't even know if this is an option. We will also visit Hoover Dam and Lake Mead.

All advice would be welcome.

Thanks in advance,
Leslie & Stuart
  • I would 2nd Clark County Shooting Range. Very nice, safe, clean area North of the City.
Close to shopping, Costco, and Home Depot.

It is not what anyone envisions as a " shotting range " It is quite an amazing facility.

When we return to Vegas, it is the only place we will stay.
  • we are NOW in las vegas. it has been a few years since we've been here. I would tell you to see the strip for a night or two and then spend most of your time downtown. the downtown has become a great place to people watch and gamble.

Of course you don't try to drive your class A around....I hope not.
  • The park at Circus Circus is closed. That was a KOA, now that's the park at Sam's Town.

Road Runner RV park is just north of that on Boulder Highway.

Closer to the strip, there is the Oasis RV Resort.
  • We stayed at the Las Vegas Motorcoach Resort.

    Resort

It's not on the strip but it's a great place.
  • If you don't mind about a 15 minute drive to downtown, make reservations at the Clark County Shooting Facility. It's only $20 per night for full hookups. You are up on a hill, with a great view of the city lights at night. It's very quiet at night too.

  • We like and stay at Arizona Charlies casino rv park on the boulder highway.
  • Circus Circus is on the strip. Basically a parking lot with hookups We prefer to stay on Boulder highway. We like AZ Charlies but there are several RV parks on or near Boulder highway. Sam's Town seems to be quite popular.

Vegas like all large towns has good and bad areas. Pretty safe in the casinos 24/7. Wandering around by youself after dark outside of casinos or their parking areas probably not a good idea not knowing areas. Casino parking lots and garages are pretty safe. I have always seen lots of security. We've been going to Vegas for years and have never had any problems.
  • the only rv park we have used is Sam's Town ( ww.samstownlv.com/stay/rv-park )
    a few years ago.
they had a shuttle to take you over to the Strip.
The park is neat and clean, but they park you pretty close together.

The Oasis RV park gets good reviews on this forum.
