Layover Stop Between St. Louis and Rocky Mtn National Park

Looking for opinoins for a day or two stop along I-70. I was thinking KC might be a half way point. Thanks for any suggestions.
  • Thanks very much for the suggestions. I'm just interested in getting there, so probably won't be doing any sightseeing. I Didn't think about needing to get there early in the day. I Will probably need to go further than half way to make that happen. I Appreciate all of the suggestions.
  • Harold Warp, Pioneer Village, Minden NE

Might be a bit out of your way but if they are still open... out of bankruptcy and even have HALF of the items we saw two years ago... it's worth stopping for and worth going out of your way for...

The restaurant was closed when we were there in 2014. The campground was shaded, small but hookups and dump station were good.

(Nebraska is more interesting to drive across than Kansas... JMHO)
  • It's approx. 900 miles from St. Louis (depending where you start) to Estes Park, Colorado (I assume that's where you'll stay).

I just looked at RVParkReviews.com which is the site you could check all of these park out.

Another poster recommended Deer Creek Valley RV in Topeka, Kansas which is closer than 1/2 way.

The next would be New Horizon RV at Junction City, KS

Half-way is Salina, Kansas at 450 miles from St. Louis. There's a KOA.

Then Marshall Ash Village RV at Stratton, Colorado

Then comes Russell KS - Triple 'J' RV.

Next is High Plains RV at Oakley, KS

The next is Goodland, Kansas KOA

Then a KOA at Limon, Colorado which would be a 690 mile drive.

From Limon you'd have 210 miles to Estes Park. This last mileage will include lots of traffic and you'll probably want to get to your destination by early afternoon so this would be a very good amount for your last day to Rocky Mtn. If you can do the 690 miles I'd try to make it to Limon, Colorado. Hopefully, you'll have two drivers to help out.

It's always good to have some options in case you want to stop earlier.

There really isn't much along I-70.

    Have a great trip!
  • DEER CREEK VALLEY RV PARK in TOPEKA KANSAS EXIT 346B off of 70.
Check in out on rv park reviews. Also a great barbeque Lonnies at entrance to park.
  • Not much to see in Kansas but if you just want a place to relax, just north of Junction City KS is Milford Lake. There are 3 Corps of Engineers campgrounds on the lake with electric or water and electric and Milford State Park with full hookups.

Depends. Are you interested in moseying over to RMNP, or do you want to get there and spend more time in the mountains? Are you committed to using I-70 vs maybe considering US 36 across MO and KS into Colorado?

St Louis to KC is only about 250 miles in a 900+ mile trip. If staying on I-70, Hayes or Wakeeney KS would be closer to a half way point. If you're looking to make 2 (or more) stops on the way, then there are other options. Would really need to know more about what you want to do -- sight see on the way out, or just get there fairly quickly.
