License Plates??

If we purchase a 5th Wheel in FL & have the dealer tow it to a nearby campground where it will remain year around & never be moved, do we have to get license plates?

And if so, we live out of state but will not be taking the rig back to that state, do we get FL plates?

Thanks in advance from anyone who can answer my questions.
  • You will need to get the camper TITLED somewhere. But you may NOT necessarily have to get license plates if you are not taking it on the road. Depends upon your state.

You can do this in Indiana, but if you ever decide to take it on the road, then you have to pay (also) for those years it was not licensed! Indiana bites! They want your money!
  • The campground that we winter in requires that you get Florida plates and then there may be a local property tax along with the Florida sales tax.
  • I hope you are IN Florida now......because you need to visit the DMV (in Florida, the Tax Collector) and ask them.

I suspect that if you do NOT put plates on it, you would have to pay "trailer tax", which is kind of a substitute for real estate taxes on a home.
