A few years ago, my wife and I paddled over and back in our kayaks.
We had to wait until a large freighter passed before crossing the shipping lane.
At that time when we explored the island, there was a small blackened area that was caused by a "controlled burn".
I guess they should have waited for a lightning strike.
On the way back we had to surf in with breakers.
On two other occasions we paddled the five miles across Tampa Bay to Anna Maria Island, but those recaps are for another time
It was a fun day

You and Nanci need to write a book about kayaking in Florida.
We were going to, but the cost is too much and we would rather just share for free our Google web site.
Check it out.
It has most of the Florida springs, rivers, the Everglades and the Keys

Isn't there a way to publish works without all the expense? Maybe an e-book that you charge for, if its income you are looking for.
No, we don't want to make any money.
Our intent is to help fellow kayak and canoe paddlers.

Jack L - NCWriterExplorerSaw a brief mention on today's news that public safety officials expect to reopen it today.
- Rangerman40ExplorerWe planned to go to Edgemont Key when we were there in April and ran out of time.
- TachdriverExplorerNever been to Edgemont Key, stay at Ft. Desoto every year and love it.
