We have really liked Caesar Creek SP, Cowan Lake SP, Hueston Woods SP, Buck Creek SP, East Fork SP and John Bryan SP.
Caesar Creek may be your best bet for location between Cincinnnati and Springfield and a variety of activities for your kids. The fossil hunting is great in the whole park. John Bryan is a small park, but adjacent to a nice gorge for hiking.
We have stayed at Winton Woods also. It is OK and would have great activities for the kids. We just prefer a more rustic setting.
Enjoy your time in Ohio!
All are good choices but you should know that Hueston Woods and Cowan Lake both have always been very nice choices they have been devastated by the Emerald Ash borer. I was at Cowan Lake over the weekend and they cut down 70% of the trees leaving most sites bare. The DNR had an event at these two parks over the weekend inviting people to bring a minimum of a 5' hardwood to plant and you could camp for free. There was a good turnout and to my estimate about 75-100 trees planted. Our site alone had 9 stumps from missing Ash trees.
