YEP! Having lived in California for 60 years before retiring to Washington State, camping in California has changed more than probably any other state in the country.
Unless you go inland, any summertime campsites at state parks, are booked up months in advance. State beach campsites are gone in just 2 or 3 hours.
You might be able to find one night here or there.
We've been traveling to SoCal in February and it's very difficult to find campsites at the popular state beaches, even months in advance. So there really is no off-season anymore.
