Los Angeles (LAX)

A week ago I was presented an opportunity to work in Los Angeles. The work location is very near the LA Airport (LAX). What I do know about the area and cost of living made me decline. However, I am curious if there are RV parks or campgrounds near LAX (reasonable distance for morning & evening commute) that would make taking the position possible.

We are talking at 6-12 months duration of assignment.

I did an initial search and found a few, but I don't always trust the park's websites. I am concerned that anything within reasonable driving distance for a daily commute would be in an unsavory or potentially dangerous area.

Thoughts?

Mapquest shows the Park as 20 miles or 22 min from LAX. Would anyone know what the real numbers are for morning and afternoon commute?

We do this drive everyday, but we live in Belmont Shore which is about 5 minutes south of Golden Shore...I can see the Queen Mary from my house.

I carpool with my wife, so we take the carpool lane.
30 to 40 mins each way, we leave at 9AM and head home at 6PM.

The same drive without the carpool lanes is 45 mins to 1 hour, each way. You have to get creative with route choice, and rely on traffic maps like Sigalert.com, if you want to make good time when commuting alone.
  • These numbers make me glad I turned down the assignment. The company has been looking at moving the facility out of state, maybe not being able to find a manager will speed up their decision. :h

  • A 1-hour (or less) commute is actually decent for LA...it still sucks, though.
