Lot with Casita

Hi Everyone! My DH and I will be retiring in about 7-8yrs and are very interested in buying and RV lot that has a Casita with it. But where are these kind of lots located? We would like to invest before we retire so we don't have a payment in retirement. Location in the southern part of united states. just somewhere with nice temps in winter. Thanks Tara
  • I have been looking at rv lots with casitas and the ones they call executive suites are really very nice. Bedroom, bath, kitchen and living area but omg, they are so expensive! We are thinking about just buying a home in the south somewhere and then rv when ever we want. But on the flip side if a person buys in a resort area where you can rent the site when not in use then that is a nice investment.

The only problem with renting AND using is that other folks generally only want to rent it when you want to use it, that is during the coldest winter months.

In many areas they are for day use only, not sleeping due to zoning regulations. We are not allowed beds or bedrooms in ours. However you can have a hide-a-bed and short term visitors. I am sure the rules vary quite a bit from area to area.
  • Between covenants and restrictions some people might prefer to just buy land and make their own pad. Make sure you understand the zoning if you do this, but you can end up with a place that will give you a lot more freedom to work on your RV (often not allowed in resort parks) and build something more than a casita. And no HOA (but probably real estate taxes).

    YMMV

  • We're looking at Deer Creek in Polk County Florida or Bay Lake in Davenport, Florida.
  • I will try to be helpful by sharing our experience. WE are both 69.5, my wife is retired and I am going to retire next year. We have been going south in our MH for about 10 years for 2 to 3 weeks. I have not found a place we want to stay all winter every year, many nice places but none that we want to be locked into. MY wife's health has deteriorated badly in the last 3 years to the point we couldn't go this year. You can never tell what will happen in 8 years and you don't even know for sure where you want to be. My advise is to decide what you are willing to spend and put that money in an investment account where you will be earning interest instead of paying interest. When you are able to take the time, travel to the places you are interested in and see if you can find the ideal place. Then when you retire you will have the cash to buy what you want where you know you want to be. Wishing you the best of luck and hope your dreams come true!!!

P.S. Wish us luck too as we are still hoping to go next year.

    Sincerely,

  • "Would a Casita be big enough for 2 people".... like has been said, a "Casita" is designed for gathering, or for utilities, cooking, a place that gives a bit more room than the confines of an RV....such as a large den for TV viewing with friends, with large comfortable chairs, perhaps as a sewing/quilting room, a hobby area, a laundry/cooking area, or a combination of all.
The majority of RV lots in the Yuma Foothills area...have been developed with 4 distinct RV hookups (tho' only 2 are allowed to be used at any given time) along the outer edges of the property. The lots are in the 65'x120' or larger range. So, 2 RV's could use the lot, or 1 RV and 1 Park Model/mobile home, or 1 RV and 1 house, and in all circumstances, a central Casita could be utilized. If you are looking for room for guests that you cannot accommodate in your RV, you could place a Park Model or single wide mobile home on the lot.

Come to Yuma in the winter, see if it suits you.
