Maine - Old Orchard Beach Area

Does anyone have any recommendations for a campground in the Old Orchard Beach, Maine area that would be good for two kids under 10?
  • baileys is nice, although pricey and the furthest away they have a shuttle.

my next choice is powderhorn or paradise park, paradise is walkable to the boardwalk.

  • When we were there 3 years ago, we stayed at Ne're Beach Family Campground in OOB. It is pretty basic with back-in sites that are all grass/gravel. It has an older bath house, but it was cleaned several times each day and it has a small in-ground pool. It was $30 per day, less than half what the other places were wanting. No, it is NOT a resort, but it is 3 blocks from the beach and is walkable, downtown is just across the street and down one block and the best part - the lobster pound is right across the street from the entrance.

While we were there, we drove through the other resorts and we were pleased with our decision since we were out each day seeing the area and experiencing the beach, lighthouses, and other area attractions and were not depending on the resort to give us something to do. It would have been a waste of our money.
  • X2 on Bayley's, Back part of the campgrond is newer and more spread out. As mentioned pricy but has all the bells & whistles a resort campground should have.

Been to Hid'n Pines and Paradice Park both are great too, get good reviews.

  • We stayed at Paradise Park and took their little shuttle to the beach. Pretty convenient. I still can't get over all the Canadians that "headed south" for summer vacation and were having a great time in the 58 degree ocean water while I froze my ass off..... Oh, learn French. You'll hear a lot of it.

You must go in July. Try August, it gets up to 63 degrees! :B

  • we went once in august, had 3 straight days of 90, I made it into the water up to my knees before running back out to warm up. Nice beach and a great area, but very cold water as is most of maine.
