Meramec State Park: Beware of site 112

Was really disappointed in this park altogether but Site 112 was a sludge pot. It had rained all day before we got there and was already standing in mud. Almost slid down setting up MH. Table pad was also standing in water. It continued to rain all night and most of the morning. Even after the sun came out it was standing in water and mud. It is in a hole as are many of the other sites. The sites that were further up and were dry couldn't be rented because you had to reserve them 2 days in advance.??? They stayed empty the 2 days we were there (while we were wading through mud to get in our door). The map was very misleading also. It shows the river running in front of your campsite. It doesn't show the 15 foot of undergrowth between where you can't see river. I will never go back there. Finally packed up and checked out and came back to Arkansas.

Thanks for the chance to rant!

  • most of central Missouri Iwoa and Illinois has had issues with rain we had to leave a campground firstweek of May or get stranded for a couple of days. Most parks in Missouri under normal conditions are nice. The wet conditions have been hard on all.

You wanted to see the water, not be in it!

The next time try Google Earth to view the campground before you go.

    Well put, Tom!
    It is in Sullivan, Missouri.
I reserved it a couple of months ago. When going on website to reserve you can see the map and then click on each site. It was a little further apart than the rest and since we have dogs, I thought it would be nice not be right in front of next camp. Pictures here are very deceiving! Lesson learned.
