Even with our record cold and record rainfall Spring this year, the camping and tourist levels are up an additional 6% as of June 1st over the record set last year by the same date.
This adds to why a reservation system is needed as so many the S.P. CG's near Lake Michigan are always filled. Of course, as it is anywhere, you always have no shows for whatever reason and those sites can't be used for or sold to others as they had been reserved and paid for whether the reserved occupants show up or not. Things happen and often not by choice but it's their site! I talked to the local S.P. manager last fall and asked if all sites are reservable and he said" "yes, basically" "but we do keep a few off the reservable list that are available for emergency situations use at our descretion. It can vary from 2 sites to 6 depending on the month during the season and during holiday weeks and what activities and attractions are occurring in the local area. There's 174 sites and a min of 168 of them are always reservable during the summer busy season and as you know we're full from the time school gets out until after Labor Day and for some events locally in the before and after shoulder seasons."
