I think the area you are talking about is Taylor Park, ~30m North of Gunnison. Mirror Lake is through TP to Tin Cup and another 5m or so. This is a great atv'ing area. Get the Charles Wells book on this area for the atv trails available. Also some great trails over near Crested Butte that you can trailer to. Camping is as said above. There is an atv park with hook ups at TP, but as said there are lots of dry camping areas.
