True story -- the first time that my son (at that time about 25 years old) ever saw the ISS, we were in the backyard in light-polluted Southern Calif. (He has always had amazing eyesight.) He looked up and said, "Wow, it looks like the letter "H!"

I can't see the solar panels even with my binoculars, no matter how I hold them.
