National forest campgrounds Wy 287/26

Hi everyone,

We will be going to Grand Teton from Colorado Springs and will be traveling there via 287/26 in Wy and I seem to remember a few National Forest campgrounds along the way. Any sugestions, we will be towing our 14ft camper and are just looking for a good 1/2 way point from Colorado Springs to Grand Teton. Don't need anything fancy as we are pretty self-sufficient.

Any ideas would be appriciated. Thanks in advance,

Dave

  • Just got back from a 3,000 mile trip from Or,Nv,Ut & Co. and some USFS CG are closed until Memorial Day. We did find a few open in busy areas also some BLM are open, so check a head if you can, we just go and always find a place to stay.
  • I've camped at Falls Campground, 25 miles west of Dubois, a couple times. It's nothing too special but I've enjoyed it. I do remember once that it was infested with a hatch of some kind of flying insect, but I imagine that's a rare occurrence.

I've never camped there, but I've been to Sinks Canyon State Park just outside of Lander. It's kind of a neat area, and I've heard good things about the camping. It would be a little closer to the halfway mark and wouldn't be out of your way much.
  • The Ultimate US Public Campground Project will show you all US Forest Service campgrounds. It includes many smaller campgrounds and dispersed camping areas that you won't find elsewhere. It also includes BLM and all other public campgrounds, from the federal level to state, county and city facilities.

  • there are a few north of Dubois. Brooks Lake, Pinnacles, and Falls campgrounds.
we have not stayed at them, but they sound pretty decent. try google earthing them and see what they look like from the air.
  • I would search here: Click Once you provide the National forest, the campgrounds will be listed.
