Yup. $10 is cheap; but it used to be free.
We lived in Estes Park. On my 62 birthday I was at the gate at 8am to get it. And we have used it at many, many National Parks.
Only monetary break I ever got from the government!
Not quite, though. I also have a handicapped one - that one is free.
We leave money in the donation box - that money stays right there as I understand it. All other entrance fees and card income go to the big pot in Washington as I further understand it.
Like has been said, you feel guilty about it; leave it in your wallet and pay the fee. Or don't buy it in the first place.
But leave money in the box!
