need advice on State parks within 3 to 4 hrs of central Oh

We are trying to plan some long weekends within 3 to 4 hours of central Ohio. We love East Harbour, Maumee Bay, Geneva, Mohican and Hocking Hills but would like to try some new places. Does anyone have any recommendations? We like to bike (easy not mt. biking), being along the water and hiking. We have a 35ft fifth wheel with 3 slides so we have a hard time finding sites that are big enough. We need electric but that is all we really need, we would rather have more space and don't like the parking lot type campgrounds. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • Also. I've never camped there but we are thinking about making a long weekend of a visit to Carter Caves State Park in KY. That's going to close to the limit of your 3-4 hour range I think. Visited there as a kid, never camped there. But you might check it out as well as other Ky state parks in the Northern part of the state.

And another one might be Lake Vesuvius area of the Wayne National Forest. Again it's on my list but have not camped there. It's close to the "Farm" in "Farm Camp" and I understand it has been recently updated. Your mileage may vary but if you make it to either of these get back in touch and let me know if you liked them!

Actually it's only 73 days till I can camp again! ;). Not that I'm obsessing about it or anything.
  • Might look at Salt Fork State Park if you have never visited. They even have a few full hookup sites. It's pretty bike friendly (IMHO). The campground isn't right on the lake but it's close by. We visited last year and already have reservations for a return in the spring if the glaciers have not covered the whole state by then.

(Edit sorry I just re read and see you've been to Hocking Hills. - Lake Hope is close to Athens and the Hocking Hills area. It is even more remote than Hocking hills and a tight fit for big campers.)

Also consider Alum Creek State Park and Delaware State Park.

74 days till I can camp again and counting!!! ;)
  • we go to Dillon park many tomes each year many great sites and plenty to do close by dilon
