We had our local plumbing company install antifreeze in our forced hot water heating system, drain all the plumbing pipes, ice maker, dish washer, washing machine, put antifreeze in traps and then shut off the heat. The house was in perfect condition when we returned. They come in a week before we get back and turn everything back on and turn the heat on 60. The first year cost to close was $700 becuase you buy all the antifeeze for the system and $200 to open it up again. Now it is $200 each way and never worry about frozen pipes bursting if the electricity goes out for days.
