I spoke with A Shaw technician yesterday, and I get the impression that they have had their knuckles rapped by the CRTC (Canadian Radio and Telecommunications Commission) due to complaints, likely from competitive USA providers like DISH.
He explained that they are licensed to operate only in Canada, so they can only provide SUPPORT services to people located in Canada.
HOWEVER, the satellite footprints remain unchanged, so the signal can be picked up in all of the places it has always been available. This is consistent with the fact that friends of ours in Mexico and the USA continue to receive their Shaw Direct programs without interruption.
Bottom line - anyone who is not technically minded, or otherwise has difficulty setting up their Shaw Direct dish and network while in the USA or Mexico, will experience some inconvenience and frustration. There's always someone around though who can help set up, and diagnose problems.
For those of us with extensive experience setting up, and maintaining systems, in places outside of Canada, I don't expect any issues.
