When Bell had a signal to the southern states they would cut you off if they found out you were using their service in the US. Shaw direct took advantage of that to market their service by providing tech support in the US as well as Canada. Now that Bell no longer has a footprint covering the US Shaw Direct no longer needs to provide this service. They know they are the only option for Snowbirds wanting service in the US. They no longer have to cheat the rules by providing tech support to Snowbirds. Nothing has changed regarding signal, only customer service and tech support. That will all change when new birds are put in service years from now and the footprint changes to cover Canada only.
