I just talked to the special support team at Shaw Direct that is allocated to deal with snowbirds on this issue. She Said:
A) The footprint on the newly deployed third Sat.will barely cover south of the border
B) The Anik F2 sat will be relocated in the next couple months and will no longer supply signal south of the border.
C) The Anik F1 Sat will be repositioned next summer so some channels may still be received this winter until this takes place. There will be no HD channels available on this Sat.
D) If you call Shaw direct they will send you a box and you can return any receivers you purchased for use in the US and will be reimbursed for them as long as they are in working condition.
E) They understand this affects hundreds of thousands of snowbirds but due to pressure from the U.S. agreed to these changes.Effective May 31 2013.
F) She recommended refreshing your receivers in Canada before leaving this year as if they are refreshed from a U.S. IP address or phone the account will be closed.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I couldn't take it any longer and had to call to find out for ourselves. Guess we will open a direct tv account down there this year.
