North Alabama RV Campground Suggestions

Any recommendations for a waterfront campground in north Alabama on either the Tennessee River (near Florence, Decatur, etc.) or on Lake Guntersville (in Guntersville or northward toward Scottsboro)? We looked online at Joe Wheeler State Park but campgrounds in the woods with no water access for bank fishing near campground. Thank in advance.

  • McFarland (In Florence) is a decent rv park with a location that is outstanding. Others might be great also, but we have had a very good experience at this city park.
  • There are some Corps of Engineers campgrounds on Lake Lewis Smith. www.recreation.gov
McFarland Park Campground in Florence. City Park. Check reviews on www.rvparkreviews.com
  • I liked Blue Heron, in Guntersville. A strange park, but very nice. Cleanest restrooms I've ever seen. Not actually on the lake, so might not meet your needs, but if I recall, public boat launch is almost across the street.
  • +1 for Cloudland Canyon! One of our favorite campgrounds :)
  • Guntersville state Park is good. Also there is Honeycomb Campground in that area http://camp-honeycomb.com/ .

Sure hard to beat DESOTO State Park and Cloudland Canyon State Park just up the road 20 miles from Desoto. Cloudland is one of my big favorites over the years...

However both sites are not creekside and no fishing from the camp grounds. Not sure what creeks might be close by for fishing...
