North Beach campground in St. Augustine

We just completed a week camping trip at North Beach. We love the area but we were a little disappointed in the campground. Does anyone know why there are several permanent trailers there? Many of them are quite junky looking. It seems the place is in need of maintenance. Just curious if anyone knows the story about this place especially since it seems to get such rave reviews.
  • After looking at all the options to camp at when we went to the area we decided to stay at Anastasia State park, it worked best for what we liked and was a lot cheaper then the other parks in the area. But it's all about choice and what's best for you.
  • We really weren't that impressed with the place when we stayed there. It was really just a place to sleep that was pretty close to everything. We were really crammed in there and a number of the neighbors were really loud at night. We saw the resident units an they were pretty dumpy looking. There was a really nice airstream setup though.
  • there are some long term rvs in need of a cleaning but most of the sites are good. the location between the atlantic ocean and intracoastal waterway (location, location, location) is why it gets good reviews. price is good for the location too.
  • Well actually they do degrade the experience because our campsite along with others was on the same row as the owned ones. We were on site #12. To our right was a permanent site and all around us were permanent sites. We weren't the only site on that row that was for vacationers. So, for anyone considering making reservations at North Beach I would ask to make sure that the you're not on the same row (area) as the permanent sites, assuming that would irritate you.
  • They have been there for more than 6 years. This is referring to a section of North Beach CG where they have permanent sites where people live and pay rent. I knew a person who used to live there and sold very fast when they decided to move. The section is by itself and the sites are not dispersed throughout the CG. Some of them are not in the best of shape though. The rest of the CG is very nice, and you really don't see the permanent sites unless you go looking for them. IMO, they don't degrade the experience.
  • it has been 6 yrs sence we were their they had no perment sites it was clean don't know what happened
