north new jersey camping

Any one been to Camp Taylor campground? It looks like a nice place. We want to stay in NJ in the wilderness, not any beach sites. I grew up in the area around the Delaware water gap, but it has been 20+ years and I never camped up there. We are trying to stay close to transit so we can take the train into the city.

Thanks

Just camped there last weekend. Great place, very much like a state park. Most sites are pretty large, we had site 71 and we would pick that one again the next time we go. We thought the owners were great and very helpful, they do have a fair amount of reasonable rules that I guess some can't follow. The Lakota Wolf preserve is on the property about 1/2 miles from the camp sites and you can hear the wolfs howl. It's also worth seeing. Haven't a clue where a train would be.

The wolf preserve is really cool, I recommend it. Went there last year. Now that I have a camper, I'm looking forward to a trip here. The sites look nice and wooded.

BTW, I will be in Stokes State Forest this weekend. Up in Shotwell. Also a nice place to camp.

  • Trains? They left Dwg 40 years ago, closest active commuter rail is 28 miles east.
  • Thanks, Aside from some people not liking the owner for whatever reasons, it seems to get good reviews. Very nice sites though.
  • Camp Taylor is a great place. As woodsy as Jersey gets. Sites are spacious but just electric and water. If you go to their website I think you can click on each site and see a picture of it.
