IF you want to be up the mountain. You really can't beat Raccoone Holler, Easy to get to, and a great place, But do call before you go. It is arguable the most popular CG in the NC High Country.
Honey Bear just out of Boone is good as well, and Flintlock Campground.
Mountain Stream is OK, but it is at the bottom of the mountain, and pretty hot there, Plus a steep, really twisty drive up the mountain. Would not be fun in any motorhome.. Not fun in a car.
However there is a nice CG just off the BRP in that area, Toe River Campground. A good place as well with a pool, playground, and of course a river.
Then there is the Boone KOA. And IF you really want away from it all. There are some really nice National Parks CGs on the BRP. Julian Price is one of the largest, and nicest, and there is also Linville Falls on the BRP. They are primitive CGs, But full of wildlife, and Julian Price has a lake to canoe on. Linville Falls is on the access road to the falls itself.
Grandfather Mountain is a fun place to go, and do go into Blowing Rock, and Boone. And Of course Linville Falls, There is also Linville Caverns. Or just ride the Parkway some, and see the sights from the overlooks. At many of the overlooks, There are trails to hike, that will take you to water falls, and other vistas.
IF you can get to it. Mt Mitchell is a great place to visit.
AND. IF you want, or like theme parks. there is Tweetsie RailRoad. With a steam engine ride, where the Indians, and outlaws attack the train. You can mine for gold, and ride the other rides. there are also shows to see there. It's a lot of fun. Then there is Mystery Hill. Where even though you fell like your standing straight up, Things fall or roll away from, or toward you. There are places like that on the BRP as well. Where it looks like you are going down hill, but yet you are really going up. Your vehicle knows better than you.
So come on up.
