Even though I grew up at various places in the west, back when I was young, far fewer parents got their girls involved in camping than happens now. If you don't grow up camping, it can be a tougher adjustment than for someone who learned at an early age.
As a father of three teenagers, including a daughter, exposure isn't enough.
All three tent camped, when they were young, moved up to RV when they were almost tweens. My daughter will only do RVs at this point, but the boys will still go old school with me tenting and even backpacking.
All I hope for is I have passed on my love of nature and national parks to at least one of them. My dad did the same for my three siblings and I. It only stuck with me. :-)
