Don't go by folks saying "no spots left", "you're too late"... just give it a try either by reservations or just by stopping. How does everyone know there are no spots left at any place? Even the state parks have cancellations - that's how we got our sites with our 40' MH. Cape Blanco State Park doesn't even accept reservations and it's a beauty with practically the whole awesome beach to yourself and no, the wind doesn't always blow. :)
Without reservations we've stayed at these state parks: Beverly Beach, Bullards Beach, Carl Washburne, Fort Stevens, Harris Beach and Cape Blanco. However, we pulled in during morning hours not at 4-5pm and never on the weekends or holidays. Get there early in the week. There are plenty of forest service and county parks along with casinos and private parks and even some great boondocking spots inland a little. We've been along the coast from May to October at various times.
