We rode down the coast on Route 101 last summer in July. My plan was and is to google up campgrounds in the area of my expected daily stops for the next 5 days,check out the reviews and call ahead. We spent a month poking down the Oregon coast and we always were able to find a spot. Now bear in mind these were all private campgrounds, and were rather expensive, $50 to $70 per night. Didn't like paying that much, but that is just the way it is because we had no idea where we were going to be a year out. Also we have a smaller RV 25' OAL so we were always told they could find a spot for us.
Oh, not to preach but, there are pull offs all the way down rt 101, we used them all the time and it always seemed the local folks would smile, toot their horn and wave thanks as they passed by...
