We will be traveling to Orlando, Fl in April. We are looking for rv campsites within 20 miles of Orlando. Our ideal camping is one with spacious campsites like to have a few trees around. We love nature and would prefer not to be right in Orlando. We like seclusion. We looked at a state park in Apoka but they want you to pay upfront when you make reservations and there is a cancellation fee if you can't make it. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Many/most of the campgrounds in the Orlando area (Florida in general) are going to want a "deposit" or payment in full, when you make the reservation. Reservations are a two way street between the camper and the campground. Read the cancellation policies and decide if they can be lived with by the camper.Orlando is Mouse country and most visited area in Florida by tourist. While there are a number of campgrounds that may meet the criteria outlined by the OP, I doubt too many of them will give a reservation without money changing hands subject to the cancellation policy.We tend to stay ten or twelve times a year at either the Fort at WDW or at Tropical Palms (full pay up front) and did stay once at the KOA nearby once a year ago. None of these are going to meet the criteria outlined IMHO. Most visitors to Orlando, go for the entertainment in the area, Disney World, or one of the other great smaller theme parks in the area. When my wife and I are more interested in just hanging out, we will head down toward Everglades NP or on to the Keys (remote but in no way secluded though)When our two daughters were attending college at UCF in Orlando, we would often stay in our RV, out east of Orlando at one of the many campsites, be it in the Coco area, Mims, Titusville, etc. and just drive our toad into to town to see the girls. This was before we moved to this side of the swamp and big lake. A number of years back, when we were full timing in our Class A, we spent a month at a CG in Christmas, FL, just east of Orlando, a ways. Enjoyed our stay there as well but don't remember any particulars about their reservation system and wanting money up front.

Lake Louisa State Park in Clermont, 20 miles west of DisneyWorld. They have a few full hookup sites but you'll have to reserve way in advance.Paying in advance is normal. The cancellation fee is only $10. if you do it a few days in advance. No big deal

A Fort Wilderness stay requires only a one night deposit that is refundable as long as the cancellation is more than 5 days out from first day of the reservation. Premium sites are fairly nice.

Thank you all for your responses. I realize Orlando is a big resort area. We are going for a convention so we have to stay pretty close to Orlando. Maybe as far as 20 miles out.I guess I don't mind putting up a deposit. It's just so far in advance anything could happen between now and then.Thanks again for the replies.

We enjoyed the KOA in Davenport when we visited Orlando. Quick access to the interstate and within 20 miles I believe.

We usually stay at Lake Louisa State Lark when in the area visiting son and family. The price is good, they have pull thru sites, and some even have sewer hook ups. It is an easy trip into Orlando from there. Be prepared for lots of tolls on the highways.

Agree with Big Katuna...Reserve America cancellation fee is $17.75, not $10.00

Florida State Parks use reserveamerica. You pay 100% up front and there is a $17.75 cancellation fee.

Fort Wilderness is a complete resort. Also on route 27 near 192 going north, there is the thousand trail orlando preserve with some quiet sites and lake. Public welcome.

Lake Magic an Encore park on 192 W is a straight shot to I-4 and downtown Orlando. There are campgrounds near Winter Garden on rt 50 straight shot to International Drive or downtown Orlando. Both are closer than Lake Louisa. Old Town has 50's Rock and Roll on Wed night and that era cars. Western singer 4-6 on Sundays and western band 6-8

Take a look at Lake Louisa State Park in Clermont, Fl. It is located on US27 just south of Hwy 50. US 27 dead ends at US192 and go East to Disney. Sites are gravel with table and fire ring at each site. Facilities are very clean and nice. Couple of lakes in the park and at one you can rent canoes/kayaks. Sites are pretty much open but have smaller trees that will not block any satellite dish. Entrance is about 3 miles from the campsite. If you go camp there try Gumbas Italian Restaurant located on Hwy 50 just West of US 27. Lost of other restaurants and shopping in the area. Wherever you end up make sure you get to Old Towne on 192 either Fri or Sat night if you like to see old cars.

small cancellation fee is just part getting a site.your lucky as by your time frame most parks should have sites available unlike now through early march.I always get a state park site in august in ohio which is there prime time.once 3days prior to leaving I broke my knee,small cancellation fee.

I don't a solution for you, but a suggestion for an additional stop. Juniper Springs (http://www.juniper-springs.com/). No water nor electric, but one of the most beautiful campgrounds you'll ever see. We hit it on a Sunday afternoon and it was pretty thin, but were told that it books pretty full on the weekend. Definitely worth the see!

Nothing fancy but reasonable rates and good size spaces, we stayed for 2 months at Merry D RV Poinciana. We liked it well enough that we will be there again for Jan thru Mar in 2014. There are no bells and whistles, pools, hot tubs, etc. just a quiet park, some trees, some of the biggest spaces I have seen. It is pretty close within the range you are looking for.
