Palo Alto Battlefield

For those who really want to learn something about the Rio Grande Valley of Texas, they will visit the Palo Alto Battlefield National Park near Brownsville, Texas. Rather than use my words, I will use theirs:

"On May 8, 1846, United States and Mexican troops clashed on the prairie of Palo Alto. The battle was the first in a two-year long war that changed the map of North America. Palo Alto Battlefield National Historical Park preserves the site of this notable battle and provides an understanding of the causes, events, and consequences of the U.S.-Mexican War."

If you have already visited, do you agree?
  • I was an old man when I first visited the Battlefield. I learned more in that one hour than in my entire 8th grade history class about why some things are like they are today, and I was a good student.
  • I have been to both sites. I am a living history presenter. I do 1846 and 1863.
We stayed at Sandpipers Resort in Edinburg Texas.
  • The last battle of the civil war was also fought at Palmito ranch, Texas. It was fought on May 13,1865 almost a month after the war ended. They hadn't received notification the war was over. As I remember it is fairly close to Brownsville.
