Thinking of making a trip to Palo Dura Canyon in October. Any suggestions for campgrounds, anything not to miss while there, etc. This will be our first time there.
I've been down in the Canyon twice in the past month. It's very nice with good facilities. I would stay in the 1st or 2nd camp ground. I just prefer that part of the canyon the most and felt the sites were better. I've stayed there in the spring several years ago for several days. It was a lot of fun. Fall is the very best time in the Texas Panhandle. Less wind, cooler temps., and not down right cold yet.
When are you going? Through September I'd get a 50 amp site if you have 2 AC's. The further down the canyon the better phone & TV reception you'll get. Great bike and hiking trails, take plenty of water. Nice golf course in Canyon. Beautiful scenery.
I dont know where to camp around there but it seems like nice campgrounds inside the park. We didn't camp and but just stopped for the day in Dec 2013. It's a nice park with a lot of hiking trails and deer sightings. I hope to get back there and stay for a week or so. I believe it was $20.00 a night to camp. It's not the grand canyon but it was nice.
