Palo Dura Canyon

Thinking of making a trip to Palo Dura Canyon in October. Any suggestions for campgrounds, anything not to miss while there, etc. This will be our first time there.

  • I've been down in the Canyon twice in the past month. It's very nice with good facilities. I would stay in the 1st or 2nd camp ground. I just prefer that part of the canyon the most and felt the sites were better. I've stayed there in the spring several years ago for several days. It was a lot of fun. Fall is the very best time in the Texas Panhandle. Less wind, cooler temps., and not down right cold yet.
  • Look at their web site for a campground map. We stayed at the farthest one - sorry, don't recall the name - and it was a beauty! Have a good trip.
  • When are you going? Through September I'd get a 50 amp site if you have 2 AC's. The further down the canyon the better phone & TV reception you'll get. Great bike and hiking trails, take plenty of water. Nice golf course in Canyon. Beautiful scenery.
  • I dont know where to camp around there but it seems like nice campgrounds inside the park.
We didn't camp and but just stopped for the day in Dec 2013. It's a nice park with a lot of hiking trails and deer sightings. I hope to get back there and stay for a week or so. I believe it was $20.00 a night to camp. It's not the grand canyon but it was nice.
