- one_strange_texExplorerThe other saying is that when Commander Robert Perry reached the North Pole in 1909, he is quoted as observing, "Boy, I sure bet it's cold in Amarillo this morning!"

Have lived in the Texas panhandle for over 60yrs. The one thing you can depend on(especially with spring approaching), is the unpredictability of the weather. It could be snowing, raining, hailing. That's all in the same day. I would check with the park first. They shut down a lot of things for winter. You might not have water or other services. The old saying is, "If you don't like the weather. Wait around a couple of hours. It'll change."
How's the old saying go, " the only thing between Amarillo & the North Pole is a barb wire fence ". Actually just about all of Texas north of San Antonio can have rapidly changing winter weather, freezing rain today & tomorrow you can go outside wearing shorts. - richconnExplorerHave lived in the Texas panhandle for over 60yrs. - 2gypsies1Explorer IIIMarch/April are gorgeous times to be there. February will be cold but you could luck out. Just watch the weather forecast as the time nears. Even so, if you dress properly cold can be refreshing for hiking.
- zigzagrvExplorerIt was near perfect when we were there a couple years ago in March.
